After a month's worth of renovations (slaving away especially over the last 4 days) tomorrow (25th of Jan) we will be re-opening our doors as The Bread and Butter Letter Version 2.0!

Rose and I are uncontrollably excited (we cant stop giggling, high fiving and just generally grinning) and could not be happier with the results, literally, there is nothing at all that could possibly make it better in our eyes... well maybe if the walls were lickable wallpaper like in Willy Wonka's factory.. ANYWAY... I digress.

We simply can not wait to share the final product with you all.

AND... the cherry on top of the sundae...the website is 90% complete! Our new web designer Emily Fox has done a great job of translating our vision onto the www.

Photos of the new shop will be posted online onto the new website soon... but i think the only real way to get the full effect is to come on it!

You've probably heard already (because we've essentially shouted it from the roof tops) that we are now open six days a week!

Last Wednesday, we had a lil get together with our new staff members and had a real hoot picnic-ing it up in the store! There was a lot of baked goods. A LOT. And the beautiful spring-daylight-saving sun came streaming through the window. It was such

a fantastic time!

We are welcoming a lovely Jasmine (Grizzly Peasants). (Who I told to look hungus-mungus for

this picture - haha)

And the darling Sasha (who makes these crocheted treats!)

And you know our sweetheart Kim from Kute Kiwi already:

Sarah and I are genuinely over the moon because it feels like we have had this blast of fresh air.

Here is our new team, ready to help with all of your vintage and craft needs!

So our new hours are:

Monday - Friday : 11-6

Saturday: 10-4

Sunday: Closed

By the way, the newcomers wanted to especially invite anyone who is doing some craft to come on in and knit/crochet with them over a nice cup of tea through shop hours. They are also keen to help us finally kick off our craft club! HOORAY!

Baking up a storm of Macaroons with Talita

As i mentioned in a previous post last Sunday i attended a Macaroon baking class held by Talita.

For those of you that don't know Talita has become somewhat renown for her Macaroon making ability.

These little delights are incredibly hard to get perfect, yet Talita seems to be able to make them to perfection everytime!

The event was held at Chelsea's flat, where we were only a few nights earlier for the Teacup's final show.

Talita had 20 people attending(!) the class so it needed to be held somewhere that could cram in all the eager bakers.

At first i wasn't going to take photos as i only had my phone on me which sadly has no flash and is only 3mp, but i couldn't resist! Low resolution or not this event had to be documented!

We were shown the 2 different methods of macaroon making, french and italian. The Italian being the one more suitable for beginners, and the french more suitable for those who are seasoned macarooners.

Most people had a hand at either piping the shells or filling of one of the 5 flavours on show; pistachio, lavender, salted caramel, rose and toblerone (a Talita speciality, one that saw her receive a gift pack from Toblerone sent to her door including hoards of chocolate and a bath robe (Toblerobe as Chelsea calls it)!)

I was worried that the dim lighting would mean that nothing would actually be visible in the photos but instead the wonderful glow of the low lighting at Chelsea's gave the images a certain somethin' somethin'.

Thanks Talita! Your a baking gem (and genius).

Farewell to a Teacup

Our good Friend Talita of Teacups and Talitas Kitchen fame is off to France on Tuesday to cook and bake up a storm at a prestigeous cooking school in Paris.

There is nothing this girl can not do!

So to bid her farewell a Teacups finale show was held at Chelsea's (aka Willowships) abode.

It was a tremendous evening!

Here is proof in the form of a magical little video put together by Rueben Stephens and Jonathan Pearce (Artisan Gunners).

You can see me grinning wildly in the front row at 4:30 onwards (in my favourite wool cardigan). Its hard to wipe a cheesy grin off your face when you are surrounded by such wonderful people and full of mulled wine.

The last two Easters I have held Easter Festivities with friends at my house and created somewhat time consuming treats.

Age: 24

How long have you been a crafting for? My entire life really... but professionally, just over a year.

What was the first thing you made?: Ever? I think the first crafty thing I ever made was a cross stitch on a baby bib of a choo choo train. I was about 10 years old...and it took me almost a whole summer to finish.

What is the best thing you've ever made and why?: That is a hard question! I'm not sure about the best... but I'm pretty proud of a few of my paintings and drawings.

What's the best crafty item you've bought and why?: Recently I bought a vintage macrame owl! It’s massive and hangs on my wall. I love it because it’s an owl...and macrame is an awesome craft!!

What was it like being picked up by World?: Very flattering and exciting.

What is your favourite Auckland craft market that we should check out?: Kraftbomb in Grey Lynn is an awesome monthly market. Also The Auckland Art and Craft Fair is a twice a year event that you must check out, the next one is coming up in June!

Last night we held a little Christmas party for friends at the Bread and Butter Letter.

Originally we had planned to have the shindig outside in our lovely courtyard but thanks to the weather it was shipped inside.

Despite this we still had a blast. We ate baked treats, played board games and had the delightful Bearcat play sweet melodies to us.

Thanks to everyone who came! And of course to Bearcat for playing.

We hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did.

Building Bread and Butter

Not so long ago, Sarah and I made ourselves a sandwich board and a dressing room/room partition. They've turned out pretty frickin' sweet! Go on, be impressed. We are.

In other news, The Bread and Butter Letter is coming together! We are finishing up the last touches here and there, and are planning on opening on the 19th January! (We will have the biggest party ever on the 15th January.) We'd love to open sooner, but the holidays for the first time in our lives, have come at an inconvenient time.

Which leads me to my next point: We are having a get together for our friends (that's you) this Monday. In exchange for your $5, we'll give you a rad night. For more info, go to our facebook event. And while you're there, become friends with The Bread and Butter Letter will you?

One of my dearest friends held a delightful tea party for the celebration of her 24th birthday

Everyone had their very own individual tea cup for the afternoon, which was to be used at all times be it filled with tea, coffee, water or coca cola.

Kirsten had picked the gem above for me sometime ago.

Its perfect!

No tea party would be complete without treats..

They tasted as good as they look.

The stunner above is the 1950s dream boat that is Kirtsen.

She was squealing with joy at the goodies she received.

And this is Jasper!

The most adorable kitten (yes kitten! despite his whopping 8kg weight) E V E R.

I tried to abduct him but my plans were foiled.

I was over the moon to finally be able to give my red dress the audience it deserves.

The Living Diamonds dazzled crowds at The Leigh Sawmill on Saturday Night

Ben 'Diamond' Anderson, Alex 'Free love' Freer, Cass 'Basil' Mitchell and Matthew 'Sleep' Ledingham' had the crowd on their feet dancing like wild animals (this is a fact).

Cass "slappa de bass'" so hard she managed to blow the cover off her bass amp...

A Gingerbread house was requested

Seeing as the dinner was taking place on a farm I went for a Barn. Seemed appropriate.

In addition to the incredible spread that was laid before us Dave made a mouth-watering chocolate log.

He truly is a mastermind when it comes to food.

Santa even made an appearance.

Complete with cream beard.

I thought it would be slightly humourous to slip in some fluffy handcuffs into the secret santa mix

I soon regretted it.

Tomorrow i am buying a lotto ticket.

After surviving being t-boned by a car who ran through a red light at around 70km/h i can safely say i feel like one of the luckiest people in town.

As cliche as it is you really never know what tomorrow holds.

If it was somehow written in my stars/stones/sorched almonds that during my years on this earth i had to experience such a thing as i did yesterday i must admit that i'm quite glad it happened they way it did.
That is to say to come out relatively unscathed and for the best part with someone by my side, hand in hand.

(I'm rethinking playing Crash Test Dummy with my 2 year old nephew)

After said experience i can give you 2 tips...

Every morning before you walk out the door make sure you;

1) have shaved legs

and

2) are wearing nice knickers

(poor medical staff)

You just never know....

And just to keep the cliches alive (they are my guilty pleasure) i also recommend that when/if you can you tell the important people in your life just how much they mean to you.
Because, right now i feel like one incredibly lucky lady to still be able to look into a certain someones eyes and tell them how much i adore them.
